Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. This role is focused on electrical engineering, software, and mechanical disciplines. Candidates with 3 to 6 years of patent prosecution experience and a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or similar fields are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will possess strong drafting skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to handle complex patent matters across various technologies. Location:

• Sunnyvale, CA

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering, software, or mechanical engineering fields.
• Handle patent litigation matters, including drafting pleadings and other litigation-related documents.
• Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and IP strategy development.
• Collaborate with clients to understand their technology and provide strategic advice on patent portfolios.
• Represent clients before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Assist with licensing and other intellectual property transactions.
• Engage in patent-related research and provide legal opinions on patentability and infringement issues.

Requirements:

• 3 to 6 years of patent prosecution experience, including patent application drafting.
• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Registration with the USPTO (required).
• Knowledge or experience in other areas of intellectual property law is a plus.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical abilities.

Education:

• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a similar technical discipline.

Certifications:

• Registered with the USPTO (required).

Skills:

• Excellent patent prosecution and application drafting skills.
• Strong legal research and analysis abilities.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Experience with patent litigation is a plus.
