Job Overview: A law firm in San Jose, CA, is seeking a skilled and motivated Post-Conviction Relief Attorney. The position offers the chance to work closely with a team of experienced attorneys and legal assistants, managing a caseload of post-conviction relief cases, and providing legal counsel to clients under the guidance of a Supervising Attorney.

Location:

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and prepare legal documents related to their cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce, and early termination of probation.
  • Collaborate across criminal and immigration law practices as required.
  • Attend motion hearings on behalf of clients and provide follow-up advice on strategies.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing.
  • Conduct court appearances, draft motions, interview clients, and perform legal research.
  • Analyze legal precedents to evaluate probable outcomes of cases.
  • Manage a caseload and provide legal analysis to assess case benefits for clients.

Requirements:

  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Proven experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach with fellow associates.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of California.

Skills:

  • Expertise in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Legal research and drafting abilities.
  • Client relationship management.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple cases effectively.
