A law firm in Spartanburg, SC is seeking an Associate Attorney to work on complex civil litigation matters. This role offers significant responsibility and hands-on experience in a collaborative and team-oriented environment. Duties:

  • Work on complex civil litigation cases, contributing to case strategies and legal arguments.
  • Interview witnesses to gather information and evidence relevant to cases.
  • Identify, consult with, and interact with experts to support case arguments and strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates and gather necessary information.
  • Develop and implement case strategies, including planning and executing legal arguments.
  • Conduct thorough legal and technical research to support case preparation and strategy.
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, including complaints, answers, and motions.
  • Prepare and respond to discovery requests, including document production and interrogatories.
  • Prepare and argue motions in court, including motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss.
  • Work closely with paralegals and support staff to manage case documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Attend and take depositions, prepare questions, and handle witness examinations.
  • Attend and participate in mediations to facilitate settlement discussions.
  • Participate in trials, including presenting evidence, cross-examining witnesses, and delivering closing arguments.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic credentials with excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Admission to the South Carolina Bar and in good standing.
  • Experience or strong interest in complex civil litigation.
  • Ability to manage multiple aspects of complex cases, including legal research, case preparation, and client communication.

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing skills, with a proven ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
  • Strong communication skills for interviewing witnesses, interacting with clients, and presenting arguments in court.
  • Proficiency in preparing and arguing motions, as well as handling discovery requests.
  • Experience or ability to develop and execute case strategies effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing case documentation and working with paralegals and support staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and assume significant responsibility in case management.
