Biotechnology Patent Agent

A law firm seeks a skilled Biotechnology Patent Agent with a deep understanding of patent law, focusing on biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. This role involves preparing, prosecuting, and counseling clients on complex patent matters, contributing to the firm’s intellectual property practice. The position is based in Chicago.

Duties:

• Draft and manage patent applications for biotechnology-related innovations, both domestically and internationally.
• Provide clients with expert advice on intellectual property strategies, patentability, and IP portfolio management.
• Prepare and analyze patent opinions, helping clients navigate the complexities of IP law.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless execution of patent prosecution strategies.
• Engage directly with clients to offer tailored patent solutions that align with their business objectives.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling, specifically in biotechnology or similar fields.
• Demonstrated experience with both domestic and international patent filings.
• Prior experience drafting patent opinions is highly preferred.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field in the biological sciences.

Certifications:

• Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proven capability to manage complex patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance to clients.
• Outstanding academic achievements and prior experience in a law firm setting are highly desirable.
