A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team in Oak Park, IL. This position presents a great opportunity for an experienced immigration attorney looking to further their career with a reputable law firm that offers substantial room for professional growth. The Senior Immigration Attorney will play a pivotal role in managing cases, engaging with clients, and mentoring junior team members. You will be part of a collaborative team that values effective strategies and solutions in the dynamic field of immigration law.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel on immigration matters, explaining complex concepts and presenting strategic solutions
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, including detained and non-detained individuals
  • Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring efficient case progression and client satisfaction
  • Conduct intake interviews and visit detained clients at immigration centers
  • Prepare and file a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based immigration, and other petitions
  • Review immigration applications and make adjustments as necessary to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on updates and changes in immigration law
  • Meet with potential clients to provide strategic consultations and determine the best course of action
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances or USCIS testimony
  • Draft and submit legal briefs in support of immigration cases

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of experience in immigration law, with a strong track record in various immigration matters
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and share knowledge and strategies within the team
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse clients and colleagues
  • Proven ability to manage a full caseload and move legal cases forward efficiently
  • Experience with a variety of immigration matters, including family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR matters, detained cases, and USCIS applications
  • Familiarity with case management software is a plus

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar admission in Illinois (or another state, with the ability to practice in Illinois)

Skills:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop legal strategies and provide sound legal advice
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Experience drafting legal briefs and handling complex immigration matters
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
