Mid-level Intellectual Property Patent Agent

A law firm is seeking a Mid-level Intellectual Property Patent Agent in Alexandria, VA.

Job Overview:

The candidate will primarily involve patent counseling, procurement, and opinions, with opportunities for licensing and enforcement, as well.

Duties:

• Counseling clients on effective IP strategy options
• Patent procurement activities, including:
• Preparation and prosecution of complex patent applications
• Prosecuting a global patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions by instructing foreign patent counsel in the prosecution of foreign counterpart applications
• Consulting with inventors, technical experts, and patent portfolio managers
• Conduct IP related due diligence for opinions, including patentability, freedom to operate, and infringement and invalidity analyses

Requirements:

• Practical experience and an in-depth knowledge of Biology or Biotechnology is required.
• Ph.D. or MS in a biology discipline required (e.g., molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, or biotechnology)
• Good standing in the bar(s) where licensed to practice law if an attorney
• Active USPTO Registration
• Superior academic record, excellent written and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and strong analytical abilities
• Highly motivated and results-oriented
• Superior technical, verbal, and written communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of patent prosecution experience, including preparation and prosecution of patent applications, managing global patent portfolios, client counseling, and opinion development.

This law firm has two offices located in Wilmington and Philadelphia. Even though this firm only has two offices, they were ranked best law firm of the year in 2015. They continue to have a number of their lawyers ranked for best lawyers year after year. Some have had the title for ten years.
