Mid-level Patent Agent

The law firm, located in Chicago, is seeking a Mid-level Patent Agent with a strong academic background, extensive law firm or industry experience, and exceptional communication and writing skills. The ideal candidate will have a degree in electrical engineering or computer science, along with 4+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience. Admission to the USPTO is required, and preference will be given to candidates with expertise in electrical engineering, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), machine learning/artificial intelligence, and hardware security.

Duties:         

• Conducting patent searches and analysis to assess patentability.
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications in various technology fields.
• Collaborating with inventors, attorneys, and clients to understand and evaluate inventions.
• Analyzing and responding to office actions from the USPTO.
• Conducting interviews with patent examiners and participating in patent examiner interviews.
• Managing patent portfolios and providing strategic advice to clients.
• Assisting with intellectual property litigation and due diligence investigations.
• Keeping abreast of developments in patent law and industry trends.

Requirements:

• Bachelor or advanced degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
• 4+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
• Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• The solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience.
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

• Patent prosecution in electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
• Experience in data science/AI or networking technologies, with a focus on network security.
• Expertise in machine learning/artificial intelligence, in addition to data science.
• Familiarity with hardware security.
