Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly entrepreneurial and collegial International Trade Partner with at least a small book of business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience advising U.S. and foreign clients on a wide range of international trade matters, including regulatory compliance, investment, import/export requirements, and trade remedies. This role requires the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks and represent clients before U.S. government bodies. Trade litigation experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise U.S. and foreign clients on U.S. regulatory requirements related to investments.
  • Guide foreign investors through the U.S. government’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review process.
  • Provide counsel on U.S. Customs regulations and other requirements governing the import of goods into the U.S.
  • Advise clients on the application of trade preference programs such as the USMCA and CAFTA, and trade remedies including anti-dumping (AD), countervailing duties (CVD), and Section 301 tariffs.
  • Offer guidance on compliance with U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and sanctions programs administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Represent clients in communications with regulatory bodies regarding investigations, protests, voluntary disclosures, and settlements.
  • Monitor and advise on developments in trade law, regulations, and policies affecting clients.
  • Participate in business development activities and build relationships with new and existing clients.

Job Requirements:

  • 8 years of experience in international trade law, with a focus on regulatory compliance, import/export regulations, and investment review processes.
  • Proven experience advising on CFIUS reviews, U.S. Customs regulations, and trade remedy measures.
  • Familiarity with U.S. trade preference programs (e.g., USMCA, CAFTA) and application of trade remedies (AD/CVD, Sec. 301).
  • Expertise in EAR, ITAR, and OFAC sanctions compliance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engage with regulatory agencies.
  • Trade litigation experience is preferred, though not required.
  • Strong business development skills and the ability to maintain and grow a book of business.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state Bar (Ohio Bar preferred or willingness to obtain).
