The ideal candidate will play a critical role in ensuring quality patient care through strategic legal counsel on healthcare matters. This position involves representing medical staffs in peer review hearings, advising on regulatory compliance, and staying updated on emerging healthcare laws and regulations. Strong understanding of peer review statutes, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards is essential.

Duties:

  • Represent medical staffs in peer review hearings, including conducting witness interviews, drafting briefs, and presenting arguments.
  • Advise medical staffs on regulatory and accreditation compliance, including the application of peer review statutes, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Draft and review medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex healthcare law issues.
  • Stay current on emerging healthcare laws and regulations and advise clients accordingly.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and internal teams to provide strategic legal guidance.
  • Manage and oversee the development of compliance programs and training for healthcare staff.
  • Provide counsel on risk management and dispute resolution related to healthcare practices.

Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of experience advising hospital medical staffs and peer review bodies.
  • Strong understanding of peer review statutes, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Proven experience in conducting legal research and drafting legal documents.
  • Strong work ethic and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of California.
