A law firm seeks a knowledgeable and dedicated Labor and Employment Associate to join its legal team in Houston, Texas. This role involves providing counsel on employment matters, representing clients in litigation, and ensuring compliance with labor regulations. The position is ideal for a candidate with a solid background in employment defense, particularly in wage and hour litigation, and experience in state and federal courts.

Duties

  • Represent clients in employment-related litigation, including wage and hour disputes, discrimination claims, and other workplace matters.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel on labor and employment issues to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, discovery responses, and motions.
  • Handle negotiations, mediations, and arbitrations to resolve disputes effectively.
  • Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies and client advisories.
  • Collaborate with legal teams and support staff to manage caseloads and meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of experience in labor and employment law defense.
  • Proficiency in employment litigation, particularly wage and hour cases.
  • Strong analytical, legal research, and writing skills.
  • Experience handling cases in both state and federal courts.
  • Labor law experience and a California license are advantageous but not required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership with the State Bar of Texas.
