Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a litigation associate to join its Native American litigation team. This position offers the opportunity to represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in complex issues surrounding tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination. In addition to Native American law, the associate will have the chance to litigate complex commercial and construction disputes. This position is open to candidates with an interest in Federal Indian Law, as well as litigation and administrative law.

Location: Princeton, NJ 

Duties:

  • Represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in legal matters related to tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination.
  • Handle complex commercial and construction litigation.
  • Participate in trial preparation, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments.
  • Draft and review legal documents including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide strategic case analysis.
  • Collaborate with team members in managing litigation cases and client communications.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of litigation experience, preferably with a focus on Federal Indian Law and administrative law.
  • Significant interest in Native American law is highly desirable.
  • Experience with trial, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the position is based.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Effective case management and legal documentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
  • Experience with legal software and technology tools.
