Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney

A law firm in Santa Ana, CA is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney with 2+ years of experience to join its team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defending workers' compensation claims, managing all aspects of litigation, and providing legal counsel to clients including insurance companies, third-party administrators, and employer representatives.

Duties:

• Handle all aspects of defending workers' compensation claims for benefits, including medical, disability, impairment, and increased benefits under LC 132a.
• Defend coverage and employment defenses for clients.
• Conduct case evaluation and preparation.
• Manage discovery, conduct depositions, and prepare for trials, arbitrations, and lien hearings.
• Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements.
• Prepare pleadings in response to applicants' claims.
• Attend hearings and depositions at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
• Provide regular reports to clients on case status and developments.
• Perform legal research and analysis to develop case strategies.
• Draft briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
• Correspond with clients, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders as needed.
• Perform administrative duties related to the practice of law.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the State Bar of California in good standing.
• 2+ years of experience in workers' compensation defense.
• Strong litigation, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
• Ability to manage a caseload effectively and prioritize tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively and develop case strategies.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
