The ideal candidate will be responsible for defending workers' compensation claims, managing all aspects of litigation, and providing legal counsel to clients including insurance companies, third-party administrators, and employer representatives.

Duties:

  • Handle all aspects of defending workers' compensation claims for benefits, including medical, disability, impairment, and increased benefits under LC 132a.
  • Defend coverage and employment defenses for clients.
  • Conduct case evaluation and preparation.
  • Manage discovery, conduct depositions, and prepare for trials, arbitrations, and lien hearings.
  • Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements.
  • Prepare pleadings in response to applicants' claims.
  • Attend hearings and depositions at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
  • Provide regular reports to clients on case status and developments.
  • Perform legal research and analysis to develop case strategies.
  • Draft briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Correspond with clients, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform administrative duties related to the practice of law.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of California in good standing.
  • 2+ years of experience in workers' compensation defense.
  • Strong litigation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively and develop case strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
