Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A prestigious law firm in Charlotte, NC is looking to hire a highly skilled Patent Agent with a background in engineering or computer science. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of attorneys and clients within the medical device industry. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of patent drafting and prosecution experience, particularly in fields such as mechanical, electrical, biomedical, or related areas.

Duties:

  • Assist attorneys in building and managing U.S. and international patent portfolios.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications.
  • Conduct due diligence investigations and patent landscape analyses.
  • Provide freedom-to-operate analysis and patent strategy advice.
  • Collaborate with clients and attorneys to develop solutions tailored to diverse needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and technical requirements related to patent law.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Preferred registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the USPTO (preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
  • Experience working with patent portfolios in the medical device sector (preferred).
