A law firm seeks a motivated and experienced Immigration Attorney to join their team in Oakland, CA. This position involves direct client consultations, representation before immigration courts and USCIS, and the preparation of legal documents for primarily Spanish-speaking clients. The role requires a strong background in immigration law, bilingual fluency, and a commitment to client advocacy in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Duties

  • Conduct in-person consultations with new clients to evaluate their cases and provide legal guidance.
  • Represent clients in immigration court and before USCIS, including master calendar and merits hearings, both in person and via Webex.
  • Perform legal research and draft motions, declarations, briefs, and appeals tailored to the specific needs of each case.
  • Assess clients for eligibility in various immigration processes, including:
    • Adjustment of status
    • Family-based immigration
    • Waivers, U visas, T visas, and VAWA petitions
    • Asylum, cancellation of removal, and DACA
    • Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and naturalization
  • Identify and address issues of inadmissibility, removability, and criminal-immigration ("immigration") concerns.
  • Collaborate with clients to navigate consular processing procedures.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within the office.
  • Travel occasionally for court appearances or client meetings, as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (required).
  • Strong understanding of family-based immigration and immigration matters.
  • Capability to work autonomously while managing a diverse caseload.
  • Availability to work in person at the Oakland office.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the United States (California Bar preferred).
