A law firm in Houston, TX is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to support its patent prosecution practice. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and have experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications. This role requires proficiency in managing multiple assignments and meeting internal and client-driven deadlines while demonstrating excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft patent applications and prosecute applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Support due diligence activities, including prior art searches and analysis.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to ensure accurate and timely patent filings.
  • Manage internal and client-driven deadlines effectively, handling assignments from multiple partners and clients.
  • Provide technical expertise to assist in protecting clients' technologies with patents.
  • Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other communications from the USPTO.
  • Review and analyze patent portfolios to support strategic decision-making.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and technical advancements in relevant fields.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution or a similar role, leveraging technical expertise to assist clients in patenting their technologies.
  • Registered to practice in front of the USPTO and Patent Bar eligible; state law practice license is preferred if applicable.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail, writing skills, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registration with the USPTO; Patent Bar eligibility required.
  • Licensure to practice law in the respective state preferred but not mandatory.
