Patent Agent

A law firm in Boston is seeking a Patent Agent to assist patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. The candidate will work closely with inventors on newly created products, identify patentable inventions, and research current patented technologies to best assist clients. The role involves drafting patent applications, tracking the patent application process, conducting ability searches, solving client challenges, and corresponding with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering or biotechnology and prior experience in patent law.

Duties:

• Assist patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications
• Collaborate with inventors on newly created products to identify patentable inventions
• Research current patented technologies to assist clients in patentable work
• Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team
• Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent
• Conduct ability searches regularly
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
• Master’s Degree or PhD preferred
• USPTO Registration required
• Background in electrical engineering or biotechnology
• Prior experience working in the area of patent law
• 3+ years of professional experience
