This role offers a unique opportunity for a skilled professional with strong expertise in patent law to provide patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution services in biotechnology and related fields.

Duties

  • Conduct in-depth patent counseling, including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications for domestic and international filings.
  • Draft detailed patent opinions focused on biotechnology innovations and similar technology areas.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop strategies that align intellectual property protection with business goals.
  • Research and analyze complex biological sciences data to support intellectual property claims.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders to address patent-related inquiries and updates.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in patent counseling, with a strong focus on patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Prior experience in biotechnology-related patent matters, including drafting patent opinions.
  • Proven legal writing and research abilities with excellent communication skills.

Education

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics) or a closely related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Must be a member in good standing with the Wisconsin Bar 

Skills

  • Highly developed analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex scientific information.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the capability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A strong academic background and hands-on law firm experience are highly desirable.
  • Excellent client relationship and time management abilities, enabling efficient project completion.
