Patent Agent

A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent for its team in McLean, VA. Here's a detailed job description:

Job Overview: The Patent Agent will work closely with the IP team to draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. They will also assist IP attorneys in various patent-related matters, including patent litigation and patent office proceedings.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
• Assist IP attorneys in representing clients in Patent Office proceedings, patent litigation, and general patent prosecution matters.
• Complete patentability assessments and conduct third-party patent searches.
• Conduct patent diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
• Assist the IP team with patent clearance and enforcement projects as needed.

Requirements:

• Must have patent application drafting, prosecution experience, and well-developed patent database search skills.
• Possess substantive academic and professional knowledge and work well in a law firm environment.
• Excellent time management skills to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
• 3+ years of intellectual property experience in patent transactional matters.
• Experience in prosecuting patent applications in mechanical and electrical engineering, with a preference for additional chemistry or biochemistry experience.
• USPTO registration number.
• Advanced technical degree preferred.
