A law firm seeks a talented and experienced Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation team, focusing on intellectual property litigation. This is an exciting opportunity to work with advanced technologies and handle complex cases for high-profile clients. The position is based in Durham, NC, and offers a chance to collaborate on patent litigation, case management, and strategy development in a fast-paced legal environment.

Duties:

  • Independently manage and oversee intellectual property litigation cases from initiation to resolution.
  • Draft, file, and argue motions, manage discovery processes and take depositions.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses to strengthen case strategies and provide technical expertise.
  • Represent clients in Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings and during trials.
  • Supervise and mentor junior associates and paralegals, providing guidance and ensuring efficient case execution.
  • Provide clients with legal advice and strategic insights on intellectual property litigation matters.
  • Prepare key legal documents, including discovery requests, legal briefs, and trial preparation materials.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in intellectual property litigation.
  • Strong proficiency in case management, including briefing, motion practice, depositions, and expert collaboration.
  • Experience with PTAB proceedings or trial litigation is preferred.
  • Proven ability to supervise junior associates and manage complex cases independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with a focus on clarity and precision.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases and manage deadlines effectively.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina or be eligible for immediate licensure.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • A degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred but not required.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar or the ability to become licensed in North Carolina without delay.
  • USPTO admission is a plus but not required.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and research skills.
  • Exceptional legal writing and drafting abilities.
  • Ability to handle complex litigation and high-pressure situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client interaction and team collaboration.
  • Experience in patent law and familiarity with intellectual property litigation processes.
