Intellectual Property Partner or Senior Counsel

Job Overview: A law firm seeks an experienced Intellectual Property Partner or Senior Counsel to join its dynamic Intellectual Property Practice Group in New York, NY. Duties:

• Lead domestic and international trademark prosecution efforts, managing all phases of the process.
• Conduct trademark clearance and manage docketing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant procedures.
• Collaborate directly with clients, foreign counsel, and internal departments on complex IP matters.
• Develop and grow a practice within the IP group, contributing to cross-departmental collaboration.
• Provide strategic legal advice, analyze complex legal issues, and develop solutions tailored to client needs.
• Draft and negotiate licensing agreements, and copyright applications, and manage enforcement matters.
• Offer mentorship and guidance to junior attorneys, supporting their professional development.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel, specializing in trademark prosecution.
• Active license with the New York State Bar (required); attorneys working remotely may need a license in the state where they reside.
• Demonstrated experience in managing high-value, complex IP matters independently.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and build a portable book of business (minimum $250,000).
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active admission to the New York State Bar (required).

Skills:

• Expertise in trademark law, including clearance and prosecution processes.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for both client interaction and internal collaboration.
• Demonstrated business development skills with a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial outlook.
• Experience in copyright applications, licensing, or litigation is advantageous.

Preferred Experience:

• Background in technology, digital assets, or software industry clients.
• Experience in a managerial or leadership role.
• Experience as a trademark examiner with the USPTO or in an in-house counsel role.
