City Prosecutor

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced City Prosecutor with over 5 years of criminal prosecution or defense experience to join its Los Angeles office. This role involves prosecuting criminal misdemeanor violations on behalf of multiple cities throughout Southern California, including building, fire, health and safety, land-use, and other local laws. Attorneys in this position will handle all aspects of criminal prosecutions, offer legal counsel to law enforcement, and contribute to administrative hearings and the drafting of local ordinances. Location:

• Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

• Prosecute criminal misdemeanor violations, including those related to building, fire, health and safety, land-use, and local laws.
• Evaluate law enforcement reports and make filing determinations.
• Prepare criminal complaints and handle all stages of criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, jury trials, sentencing, and post-conviction hearings.
• Represent City Staff in administrative hearings before hearing officers, Planning Commissions, and City Councils.
• Advise law enforcement on special investigations and assist with drafting new local ordinances.
• Collaborate with other attorneys to address complex legal issues affecting municipalities.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of criminal prosecution or defense experience.
• Active membership in the California State Bar.
• Strong courtroom experience, including trials, pre-trial motions, and sentencing.
• Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage a varied caseload under tight deadlines.

Education:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the California State Bar.
