Job Overview: A distinguished law firm seeks an experienced Patent Agent or Attorney with specialized expertise in 5G and wireless standards to join its expanding 5G standards practice. This position requires strong technical knowledge in patent applications related to 4G, 5G, and upcoming 6G technologies, as well as experience with the 3GPP Communication Standards Organization. This role offers the flexibility of remote work and opportunities for professional growth, including contributing to a new team in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas.

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to 4G, 5G, and 6G technologies for submission to the 3GPP Communication Standards Organization.
  • Prepare claim charts that align patent claims with 3GPP Communication Standards.
  • Collaborate with innovative clients on complex telecommunications patent cases.
  • Provide strategic patent advice and contribute to ongoing development within the 5G standards practice.
  • Option to support the development of new practice areas and contribute to office growth initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications specifically related to 4G, 5G, and 6G technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical submissions to the 3GPP Communication Standards Organization.
  • Experience preparing claim charts mapping patent claims to 3GPP standards.
  • Previous Big Law experience is an advantage.

Education:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Expertise in wireless communication standards and telecommunications technology, particularly 4G, 5G, and 6G.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills for drafting high-quality patent applications.
  • Ability to independently manage complex patent portfolios and meet productivity goals.
  • Effective client communication skills and experience handling sophisticated patent issues.
