A law firm seeks a talented and motivated Tax Associate to join its growing practice in Atlanta, GA. The ideal candidate will have 2 to 3 years of experience in tax law, specifically in federal, international, and state and local tax planning. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse and complex tax issues, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, investment fund formation, real estate transactions, and tax controversies. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, collaborating with other attorneys and professionals to provide top-tier service to clients.

Duties

  • Advise clients on a variety of tax matters, including U.S. federal, international, and state/local tax planning.
  • Work on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, providing tax analysis and structuring advice.
  • Assist in the formation of investment funds, addressing tax implications for different structures.
  • Support real estate transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and preparing related filings.
  • Handle tax disputes and controversies, including audits, voluntary disclosures, appeals, and collections, engaging with the IRS, Tax Court, and state tax authorities.
  • Conduct legal research and draft clear, concise memoranda, opinions, and other documents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, paralegals, and other staff to manage client matters efficiently across multiple offices.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in tax law, with exposure to federal, international, and state/local tax issues.
  • Prior experience with corporate tax planning, mergers and acquisitions, and tax dispute resolution is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex legal matters both independently and within a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Georgia Bar.

Skills

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complex tax concepts to clients and team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with tax law databases and legal research tools.
