A law firm seeks a skilled associate with 2-5 years of experience in patent litigation, specifically in the life sciences sector with a focus on ANDA cases. This position, based in Washington, DC, offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about intellectual property law to engage in complex litigation, collaborate with clients, and actively contribute to case strategy and development.

Duties:

  • Patent Litigation Representation: Advocate for clients in patent disputes, particularly in the life sciences and ANDA matters, before U.S. District Courts and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
  • Case Strategy & Development: Collaborate with senior attorneys to create and refine litigation strategies, contributing to all phases of case preparation.
  • Research & Legal Writing: Conduct thorough factual and legal research and prepare high-quality legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and claim construction briefs.
  • Discovery & Depositions: Lead discovery efforts on issues related to patent infringement, validity, and damages, including taking and defending depositions and handling expert discovery.
  • Trial Support: Participate in pre-trial preparation and courtroom proceedings, including trials, hearings, and settlement discussions.
  • Client Interaction: Act as a direct point of contact for clients, guiding litigation matters and strategic decisions.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in patent litigation, particularly in ANDA or life sciences-related cases.
  • Solid experience in U.S. District Court proceedings and post-grant actions before the PTAB.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex legal issues, draft motions, and provide strategic input into case development.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients, opposing counsel, and colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on clear, effective legal writing.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life sciences field is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the position is located (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle all aspects of patent litigation, from discovery through trial.
  • Confidence in client-facing and courtroom environments.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
