Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced and dedicated Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team in Houston, TX. This role presents an opportunity for a highly motivated legal professional to represent clients in complex immigration matters, including removal defense and family-based petitions. The ideal candidate will possess strong litigation skills, a deep understanding of immigration law, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload while collaborating with a team of skilled legal professionals.

Duties

  • Advise clients on immigration procedures, case strategies, and potential legal options.
  • Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a high-volume caseload with efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Conduct intake evaluations and legal assessments for detained clients at immigration detention centers.
  • Prepare and file a wide range of immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Review case files and legal documents to ensure compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Work with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and community organizations on immigration law updates.
  • Conduct consultations with prospective clients, providing case assessments and strategic recommendations.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and USCIS interviews.
  • Draft and submit legal memoranda, motions, and appeals in support of client cases.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing immigration law.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to case strategy discussions.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Experience handling Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian applications, EOIR proceedings, Citizenship applications, and detained client cases.
  • Proficiency in case management software is preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing.

Certifications

  • Licensed attorney with an active bar membership.

  • Strong litigation and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth legal research and develop sound case strategies.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to mentor and collaborate with legal support staff.
