Employee Benefits Attorney

Job Overview:

Duties:

  • Advise clients on a range of employee benefits matters, including the design, drafting, and administration of defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), and welfare benefit plans.
  • Provide counsel on executive compensation programs, including tax-advantaged plans and compliance with ERISA and other related laws.
  • Assist in merger and acquisition support, ensuring the integration of employee benefits plans and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Represent clients in dispute resolution and litigation matters related to employee benefits, ERISA compliance, and executive compensation.
  • Offer strategic advice regarding plan compliance, governance, and regulatory reporting.
  • Handle complex transactions, including advising on ESOPs and guiding clients through the transactional process.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of client service and attention to detail.

Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of experience in employee benefits law, with a focus on ERISA, employee welfare plans, and executive compensation.
  • Extensive experience with ESOP transactions and providing advisory services to ESOP clients.
  • Strong understanding of tax laws as they pertain to employee benefit plans.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal concepts.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, and projects concurrently.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Bar in the state of Indiana (or ability to become admitted).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of ERISA, tax laws, and related regulations.
  • Expertise in designing, drafting, and managing employee benefit plans.
  • Proficient in legal research, analysis, and drafting of complex legal documents.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Advanced communication skills with a focus on client advisories and team collaboration.
