Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a talented and experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Associate Attorney to join its highly regarded IP group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent prosecution, particularly in software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical disciplines. Duties:

  • Manage multiple IP matters, including patent preparation, prosecution, and client consultations, from inception to conclusion.
  • Provide patentability and clearance opinions, manage patent estates, and offer guidance on licensing and enforcement.
  • Maintain high levels of attention to detail and effective communication with clients and team members.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to handle complex legal matters.
  • Produce high-quality legal work while meeting billable hour requirements.
  • Develop and manage business relationships, contributing to firm growth and client satisfaction.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all professional activities.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in good standing in at least one jurisdiction where the firm operates.
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Ability to manage legal matters independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the capacity to make strategic judgments in client matters.

Education:

  • Required: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in working with internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams effectively, especially in client-facing situations.
  • A strong focus on continuous learning and staying updated with technological advancements in the IP space.
