Job Overview: A prestigious law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, specifically within the Electrical Engineering & Software team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with experience in patent prosecution and litigation related to electrical engineering, software, and other advanced technologies. The role offers flexibility across multiple office locations, with the chance to work on a diverse and exciting range of IP matters.

Location:

  • Washington, DC

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patents in the fields of electrical engineering, software, and related technical areas.
  • Represent clients in patent litigation, including managing discovery, preparing motions, and assisting with trial preparation.
  • Develop and implement strategies for patent portfolio management and advise clients on IP risks.
  • Provide counsel on patentability, infringement issues, and freedom-to-operate.
  • Collaborate with clients to provide strategic advice on complex intellectual property matters.

Requirements:

  • Experience in IP law, with a strong focus on patent prosecution and litigation in electrical engineering, software, or related fields.
  • Design engineering experience, particularly in chip companies, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of networking, software, and wireless technologies (3G/4G/5G) is preferred.
  • 2-6 years of relevant legal experience for Associate candidates.
  • Candidates must be admitted to the USPTO.
  • Associate candidates must be licensed to practice law or able to become licensed in the state of employment (bar licensure in California is a plus).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong organizational and analytical skills.

Education:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field is required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO admission is required for all candidates.
  • Associates must be licensed to practice law or have the ability to become licensed promptly in the relevant state.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical details related to electrical engineering and software patents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
