Associate Attorney Energy, Utility & Regulatory

A law firm seeks an enthusiastic and detail-oriented associate attorney to join its Energy, Utility, and Regulatory practice group in Albany, NY. The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of experience and a strong interest in these areas of law. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter who possesses superb research, writing, and communication skills. The associate will work closely with senior attorneys to provide legal counsel to clients in the energy and utility sectors while gaining significant exposure to regulatory matters.

Duties

• Assist in providing legal advice on energy, utility, and regulatory matters to clients in various industries.
• Conduct legal research and analysis related to regulatory compliance, energy law, and utility issues.
• Draft legal documents, including memoranda, contracts, regulatory filings, and other legal correspondence.
• Represent clients in administrative proceedings and assist in regulatory filings.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop strategies and solutions for complex legal challenges.
• Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, and opposing counsel on ongoing matters.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed.
• Stay up-to-date on legislative and regulatory changes affecting energy and utility industries.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• 2-4 years of experience, with a demonstrated interest in energy, utility, and regulatory law.
• Admission to the New York State Bar; admission to the New Jersey Bar is a plus.
• Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Solid professional judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Strong work ethic and resourcefulness.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.

Certifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
• Admission to the New Jersey State Bar (preferred but not required).

• Proficiency in legal research and writing, including the use of legal research tools and resources.
• Excellent verbal communication and client interaction skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
