Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Supervising Veterans' Benefits Attorney to oversee a team handling veterans' benefits cases. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience in veterans' benefits law, particularly representing claimants at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC). This role involves providing legal guidance, developing case strategies, and making key decisions regarding veterans' claims. The Supervising Attorney will lead and mentor a team of case managers and staff, ensuring that all cases are handled effectively and efficiently.

Location:

  • San Diego, California

Duties:

  • Oversee case management and ensure efficient and effective case progression.
  • Provide legal guidance to the team and set the overall pace for case handling.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop legal strategies, analyze legal issues, and review evidence.
  • Conduct Higher Level Review Informal Conferences and Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA) Hearings.
  • Draft BVA Briefs, BVA Memorandums, and BVA motions.
  • Handle proceedings at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).
  • Make key decisions on requesting medical and vocational opinions, appealing cases to the BVA or CAVC, and determining case resolutions.
  • Analyze complex legal issues, evaluate risks, and provide recommendations to clients or senior management.
  • Mentor and lead case managers and other team members.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one state.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in veterans' benefits law, including representation at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and research skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience managing a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving veterans and their families.
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to manage case management software and digital tools.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in at least one state.
