A law firm based in Kansas City, MO, is seeking a skilled Appellate Attorney to join their expanding Appellate Department. This remote position involves drafting and preparing arguments to appeal administrative decisions in the realm of disability law. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a background in either Social Security Disability law or appellate work. An active attorney license from a State Bar association is required, with a preference for licenses in MO, KS, or OK.

Duties:

  • Draft, prepare, and file appellate briefs and legal arguments to appeal administrative decisions.
  • Conduct detailed legal research and analysis to support appellate cases.
  • Review case records and administrative decisions to identify potential grounds for appeal.
  • Develop and articulate strategic legal arguments in written form.
  • Collaborate with clients and legal team members to gather relevant information and evidence.
  • Manage a caseload of appellate cases independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Stay updated on changes and developments in Social Security Disability law and appellate procedures.
  • Communicate clearly with clients regarding the progress of their appeals and provide strategic guidance.
  • Prepare and submit various legal documents, including motions and briefs, within established deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active attorney license through a State Bar association, preferably in MO, KS, or OK.
  • Experience in appellate work or Social Security Disability law (preferred).
  • Proven track record of writing and filing successful appeals.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently and handle remote work efficiently.
