Patent Agent - Electrical Engineering & Software

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is currently seeking a qualified Patent Agent to join its growing Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The focus will be on electrical engineering and software, where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in both patent prosecution and litigation, managing cutting-edge intellectual property matters.

Location:

• Durham, NC

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to electrical engineering, software, and other technical fields.
• Handle patent litigation matters, providing counsel and strategic advice.
• Advise clients on intellectual property portfolios, patent strategy, and protection.
• Perform patentability, infringement, and validity analyses.
• Represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex patent-related issues.

Requirements:

• IP experience with a focus on patent prosecution and litigation.
• Background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a similar technical field.
• Design engineering experience with chip companies is a plus.
• Preference for candidates with expertise in networking, software, or wireless technologies (3G/4G/5G).
• Associate and Patent Agent candidates must be admitted to the USPTO with 2-6 years of relevant experience.
• All candidates must be a member of the USPTO.

Education:

• Relevant undergraduate degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field).

Certifications:

• USPTO registration required for all candidates.
