Senior Immigration Attorney

A law firm seeks a Senior Immigration Attorney to join its team in Bakersfield, CA. Duties

• Provide legal counsel and devise strategies for clients on a wide range of immigration matters.
• Represent detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
• Manage a substantial caseload, ensuring each case progresses efficiently and in accordance with deadlines.
• Conduct intake interviews with detained clients at centers and evaluate their cases.
• Prepare and submit various immigration petitions, including family-based petitions, removal defenses, and humanitarian relief requests.
• Review and amend immigration applications to ensure completeness and compliance with relevant laws.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations regarding updates to immigration law.
• Hold strategic consultations with potential clients to determine the best course of action and legal strategy.
• Prepare clients and witnesses for USCIS interviews and court testimony.
• Analyze cases to identify potential legal benefits and provide tailored recommendations.
• Draft and file legal briefs and motions for immigration-related cases.

Requirements

• Experience: 5-8 years of experience in immigration law, including handling family-based petitions, removal defense, detained cases, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
• Skills:
  • Strong ability to manage a diverse caseload and provide timely resolutions for clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate within a team and engage with clients.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in California.
