A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with experience in intellectual property (IP) law to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group in the Electrical Engineering & Software Team, located in Atlanta, GA. The ideal candidate will have expertise in patent prosecution, a background in computer science or electrical engineering, and a strong understanding of related technical fields such as networking and wireless technology. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced patent agent to contribute to a dynamic team, supporting clients in the field of electrical engineering and software.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to electrical engineering and software technologies
  • Collaborate with engineers, clients, and legal teams to provide strategic guidance on patent portfolios
  • Perform patentability, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analyses
  • Prepare technical documentation and responses to office actions from the USPTO
  • Stay updated on developments in relevant technologies and patent law
  • Participate in patent litigation support when necessary

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of patent prosecution experience
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
  • Experience in design engineering, particularly with chip companies, is a plus
  • Familiarity with networking technologies and wireless networks (3G/4G/5G) is preferred
  • Must be admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required

Certifications:

  • Must be a member of the USPTO

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and IP law
  • Strong technical writing and drafting skills
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering and software technologies
  • Ability to analyze complex technical and legal issues
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • Experience with 3G/4G/5G wireless networks and similar technologies is a plus
