Job Overview:

A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled Wage & Hour Associate to join its team in New York City. This position focuses on labor and employment law, with a primary concentration on wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), New York Labor Law, and other state laws. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in employment law and will be responsible for representing employers in litigation, providing strategic legal advice, and managing risk.

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Litigate cases involving employment-related claims, focusing on wage and hour issues under FLSA, New York Labor Law, and other state laws.
  • Represent employers in court, before administrative agencies, and during mediations and arbitrations, especially in class/collective actions and wage-related matters.
  • Advise employers on compliance with wage and hour laws, offering guidance on risk management strategies and dispute resolution programs.
  • Strong preference for experience in class/collective action wage-hour cases.
  • Fair Workweek/predictive scheduling experience is desirable but not required.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of legal experience, with a focus on employment law preferred.
  • Proven experience in litigating wage and hour claims, particularly class/collective actions.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly explain complex legal concepts.
  • Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of cases in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating professionalism and collegiality.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.

Certifications:

  • Current New York State Bar admission, or the ability to obtain admission.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Expertise in wage and hour laws and employment law litigation.
  • Ability to manage risk and provide proactive legal counsel.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment while also working independently.
