Job Overview

A well-regarded law firm is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its team in Newport News, Virginia. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse litigation matters in both General District and Circuit Courts. Location

Duties

  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, responses, and discovery requests/responses in state courts

  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda of law and briefs

  • Participate in pretrial hearings, depositions, and trial proceedings

  • Assist in preparing clients and attorneys for trial and deposition appearances

  • Contribute to preparation of appeal briefs and oral argument responses

  • Support case strategy development and litigation planning

Requirements

  • Litigation experience preferred (entry-level candidates will be considered)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters and court deadlines

  • Familiarity with General District and Circuit Court procedures in Virginia

  • Strong interest in trial work and client representation

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Strong academic credentials preferred

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Virginia

  • Member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar

  • Must meet continuing legal education (CLE) requirements during employment

Skills
