Job Overview:
A well-established landlord-tenant law firm in the Bronx is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney with experience in Housing Court and landlord-tenant law. The ideal candidate will be familiar with New York City Housing Maintenance Codes, Rent Stabilization Laws, and other related regulations. The position involves drafting legal documents, handling court appearances, and providing expert counsel to property owners. The firm offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where candidates can further develop their litigation skills.

Location:

  • Bronx, NY

Duties:

  • Draft nonpayment and holdover complaints for both commercial and residential landlord-tenant cases
  • Draft motions, oppositions, pleadings, and other legal documents
  • File case documents (motions, pleadings, opposition papers) on NYSCEF
  • Handle court appearances, including negotiating stipulations, arguing motions, and performing inquests, hearings, or trials
  • Engage in client communication, providing legal guidance and gathering evidence of repairs for HP cases
  • Represent and defend property owners against NYC Housing Maintenance Code (NYC HMC) and HPD Violations
  • Work with opposing counsel to negotiate settlements and resolve matters out of court
  • Prioritize multiple competing tasks and manage case files effectively

Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to the New York State Bar and in good standing
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in landlord-tenant law, particularly in Housing Court
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Ability to handle assignments independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and filings on NYSCEF
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with clients and opposing counsel
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve cases outside of court

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (in good standing)
