A law firm in Washington DC is seeking a highly experienced Patent Attorney with a computer or electrical engineering degree. The ideal candidate will have 10-18 years of experience and a strong background in patent law. Duties:

  • Prepare, draft, and file patent applications in computer engineering and electrical engineering.
  • Conduct patentability searches and provide detailed analyses of patent landscapes.
  • Prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Advise clients on patent strategies, including portfolio management and patent monetization.
  • Provide legal opinions on patent validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate issues.
  • Manage patent litigation, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and representing clients in court.
  • Negotiate and draft patent licensing agreements.
  • Stay current with developments in patent law and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other professionals to understand and protect innovative technologies.
  • Conduct due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and other intellectual property asset transactions.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 18 years of experience in patent law.
  • Strong technical background with a degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering.
  • Extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Proven track record of managing complex patent portfolios and litigation.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or electrical engineering.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of patent law, particularly in computer and electrical engineering.
  • Proficiency in patent drafting, prosecution, and litigation.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical information and provide clear, concise legal advice.
  • Knowledge of current trends in technology and patent law.
  • Advanced computer skills, including patent databases and legal research software proficiency.
