Job Overview:
A law firm in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking an experienced Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join its growing legal team. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex post-conviction relief matters, gaining valuable experience in both criminal and immigration law. The ideal candidate will have litigation and/or appellate experience and will be responsible for managing a caseload while collaborating with attorneys and legal assistants.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents related to their cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, sentence reductions, and early termination of probation.
  • Represent clients in court, including motion hearings and other proceedings.
  • Provide strategic legal advice following hearings.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, plea negotiations, and sentencing.
  • Draft motions, conduct legal research, and interview clients.
  • Analyze case precedents to assess probable outcomes.
  • Maintain and manage a caseload efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Previous experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
  • Strong litigation and appellate skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and strategize with fellow attorneys.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Effective oral advocacy and courtroom skills.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload efficiently.
  • Knowledge of both criminal and immigration law is desirable.
