Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a mid-level IP Patent Prosecution Attorney to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice. This position is ideal for an attorney with 3+ years of patent prosecution experience, specializing in patent search and analysis, drafting and filing patent applications, and managing patent portfolios across various industries. Experience in mechanical, biomedical, and medical devices is a plus, though not required. Litigation experience is desirable but not essential.

Location:

  • Bethesda, MD

Duties:

  • Manage and oversee patent prosecution activities, including drafting and filing patent applications
  • Conduct patent searches and provide detailed analysis to support filing strategies
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio management and strategic decisions
  • Assist clients in navigating the complexities of patent law
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys as needed
  • Optional involvement in patent litigation, based on interest and experience

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Strong experience in patent search, analysis, and application drafting
  • Experience with mechanical, biomedical, or medical device patents is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • Patent litigation experience is a plus but not required

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, biomedical science, or a related technical field is preferred

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar
  • USPTO registration
