A law firm seeks a highly experienced and skilled International Trade Attorney to join its team in Saint Joseph, MI. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience handling corporate transactions with a strong focus on international trade matters. This position involves advising clients on compliance with U.S. trade regulations, including tariff classification, customs valuation, trade remedies, and free trade agreements such as USMCA. The role offers the opportunity to manage transactions involving controlled technologies, conduct legal research, and represent clients in regulatory matters.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on U.S. trade regulations, including import/export control laws, tariff classification, and customs compliance.
  • Manage compliance with trade preference programs and trade remedy applications, such as USMCA, AD/CVD, and Section 301.
  • Handle corporate transactions involving controlled technologies and international trade regulations.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and provide analytical support for regulatory compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to international trade and corporate transactions.
  • Represent clients in regulatory matters, assisting with obtaining licenses and necessary approvals.
  • Stay current on changes to international trade laws and advise clients on emerging regulatory issues.
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to ensure compliance with international trade laws.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of experience in corporate transactions with a focus on international trade regulation.
  • Proficiency in trade preference programs, such as USMCA, AD/CVD, and Section 301.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. import/export control laws and trade compliance issues.
  • Ability to draft, negotiate, and review complex legal documents related to international trade.
  • Experience with regulatory matters, including obtaining licenses and approvals for trade transactions.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with complex regulations such as ITAR, EAR, CFIUS, and OFAC Sanctions Programs is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Michigan Bar or Washington D.C. Bar.

Skills:

  • Expertise in international trade law, particularly U.S. trade regulations and compliance.
  • Proficient in trade preference programs and trade remedy applications.
  • Strong ability to conduct legal research and provide actionable insights.
