Job Duties:

  • Conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses.
  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Providing intellectual property counseling to clients on patent strategy and portfolio management.
  • Conducting due diligence and drafting opinions relating to intellectual property matters.
  • Handling intellectual property litigation matters, including patent infringement litigation.
  • Assisting in licensing negotiations and agreements.
  • Conducting intellectual property audits and assessments.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar of Indiana (or ability to waive in).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing intellectual property law, focusing on patent prosecution and litigation.
  • Technical background in mechanical engineering; familiarity with electrical engineering and material science preferred.
  • Experience with patent searches, drafting patent applications, and client counseling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Certifications (preferred):

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches using patent databases and other resources.
  • Ability to draft clear and concise patent applications and legal documents.
  • Strong understanding of patent laws and regulations.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate with attorneys and staff across different practice areas.
