Job Overview: A well-established law firm based in Oakland, CA, is seeking an experienced Criminal Defense Associate Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in felony criminal defense, with a demonstrated history of successfully representing clients in various stages of the legal process. This role is suited for an attorney with a passion for advocating on behalf of clients, mentoring junior associates, and working within a supportive, high-performing legal team.

Duties:

• Advocate for clients in criminal defense cases, striving to achieve the best possible outcomes.
• Develop comprehensive legal strategies tailored to each stage of a client’s case.
• Mentor and guide junior associates, offering feedback and coaching to help develop their skills.
• Attend case management meetings, providing strategic insights and updates on client cases.
• Prepare and file all necessary legal documents, ensuring timely submission to meet court deadlines.
• Conduct thorough legal research and draft motions for use in court proceedings.
• Maintain professional and respectful relationships with clients, fostering trust and clear communication.
• Stay current with changes in criminal law through ongoing education and training.
• Represent clients in court, including preliminary hearings and felony trials.

Requirements:

• Must have a minimum of 6+ years of criminal defense experience, specifically focusing on felony cases.
• Proven ability to draft and argue motions, including those related to post-conviction matters.
• Experience with at least 10 felony jury trials and preliminary hearings.
• Must be a member in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Ability to travel as needed within Alameda County and the Bay Area.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active California Bar membership is mandatory.

Certifications:

• California Bar admission is required.
• Candidates with bilingual capabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
