Job Overview:

A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney to join its civil litigation practice in Chapel Hill, NC. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse caseload involving subrogation, product liability, construction, and other related fields. Whether you're an experienced attorney or a recent law school graduate, the firm is willing to provide training to the right candidate. The role requires statewide court appearances and a flexible work schedule based on caseload and active litigation.

Duties:

  • Attend court hearings statewide, both in-person and remotely.
  • Handle depositions, including both taking and defending, in-person and virtually.
  • Participate in arbitrations and mediations, both in-person and remote.
  • Manage one- to two-day bench or jury trials.
  • Review documents, including discovery responses, incoming referrals, and new claims.
  • Draft discovery requests, and discovery responses, and prepare documents for arbitrations, depositions, mediations, and trials.
  • Communicate with attorneys, clients, experts, and paralegals to ensure smooth case management.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of cases, including assessing causation and damages in new and ongoing claims.
  • Perform general litigation and administrative tasks.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong professional communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and a problem-solver with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills, especially in a paper-based environment.
  • Dependability, reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of North Carolina (required).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management tools.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to both in-person and remote litigation settings.
