A law firm seeks a highly motivated mid-level Labor and Employment Associate to join its team in Baltimore, MD. This position offers an exciting opportunity to focus on workplace class action cases, specifically in defending wage and hour class and collective action lawsuits. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in employment litigation, with experience conducting witness interviews, taking and defending depositions, and working on complex litigation.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in complex employment litigation, focusing on defending wage and hour class actions and collective actions.
  • Conduct witness interviews and take depositions in both individual and class action cases.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to employers on federal and state employment law compliance.
  • Draft workplace policies, and employee handbooks, and assist clients with training programs related to employment law.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys to develop litigation strategies and case preparation.
  • Participate in the discovery process, including preparing and responding to discovery requests.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Handle complex legal research and analysis, ensuring that all case-related issues are addressed effectively.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience in employment litigation, particularly defending wage and hour class action lawsuits.
  • Significant experience conducting witness interviews and handling depositions.
  • Trial experience is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with counseling employers on federal and state employment law compliance, drafting workplace policies, and training employees.
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong legal writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Must be admitted to the bar in the jurisdiction where you practice (MD, PA, NJ, DE, or DC).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar in the jurisdiction of practice (Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, or Washington D.C.).

Skills:

  • Strong litigation experience, particularly in employment law and class action defense.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in legal research and case management.
  • Ability to manage a high caseload while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with clients and opposing counsel.
