Job Overview:
A prominent global law firm is seeking a highly skilled Senior AI Governance Counsel to join its Information Governance team in New York. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining the firm’s AI governance framework, ensuring compliance with evolving legal and ethical standards, including AI safety and responsible use of AI. This position will focus on reviewing AI-related provisions in engagement terms and client guidelines, as well as integrating AI governance into the firm’s broader risk management processes.

Duties:

  • Develop and implement AI governance strategies aligned with client requirements, organizational goals, and ethical standards.
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive AI governance framework that adheres to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain policies, guidelines, and documentation to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI governance into existing compliance and risk management processes.
  • Ensure AI practices comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Protect and maintain confidential, privileged, financial, and proprietary information handled by the firm.

Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional services or industry experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in emerging technologies, particularly AI (including generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing) and their applications in legal or corporate environments.
  • Deep understanding of relevant AI and privacy legislation, such as the EU AI Act and GDPR.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams.

Education:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to at least one U.S. State Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of AI technologies and their legal applications.
  • Expertise in developing governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of AI and privacy laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
