Job Overview:
A leading law firm specializing in bankruptcy law is seeking an experienced Managing Attorney to oversee and guide a team of entry-level attorneys. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in consumer bankruptcy law and will be responsible for ensuring new attorneys are well-equipped to manage their caseloads efficiently. This role involves training, coaching, and supervising attorneys to maintain high standards in case management, client interactions, and adherence to filing goals.

Duties:

  • Training and Development:

    • Provide continuous training to entry-level attorneys on conducting client interviews, gathering financial information, and determining case strategy.
    • Guide attorneys in preparing, reviewing, and finalizing bankruptcy petitions in compliance with legal requirements and client needs.
    • Develop and maintain training materials to support attorneys' transition into independent case management.
  • Coaching and Mentoring:

    • Offer day-to-day guidance in legal analysis and case strategy, fostering a collaborative environment for continuous improvement.
    • Assist attorneys with complex cases, identifying potential issues and developing solutions while ensuring quality client service.
    • Conduct regular one-on-one coaching sessions and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
  • Case and Calendar Management:

    • Oversee attorneys’ calendars to ensure all client interviews, petition filings, and hearings are conducted within established timelines.
    • Monitor case progress and ensure timely filing of all documents to meet the firm’s filing goals.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as paralegals and support staff, to ensure seamless case management.
  • Time-Off Management:

    • Approve and manage time-off requests, balancing team flexibility with operational needs.
    • Ensure fair scheduling practices that allow attorneys to take time off without impacting case progress or client service.
  • Goal Management and Reporting:

    • Track and report on monthly filing goals, ensuring attorneys meet or exceed performance expectations.
    • Work closely with senior management to ensure efficient caseload management and team productivity.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and all four federal districts.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in consumer bankruptcy law, with significant involvement in case management and client interactions.
  • Proven experience in mentoring, supervising, or training junior attorneys or legal staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of bankruptcy law, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on coaching and motivating team members.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in legal software and case management systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience leading a team of legal professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with bankruptcy court procedures and electronic filing systems.
