A law firm seeks a highly skilled and motivated Life Science Patent Agent to join its New York office. This position is ideal for someone with experience in patent prosecution within the life sciences sector, including pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of tasks including patent counseling, portfolio analysis, post-grant proceedings, and litigation support. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-profile cases and be part of a nationally recognized life sciences group.

Duties:

  • Manage patent prosecution for life science technologies, including pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and natural products.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing patent applications and responding to USPTO office actions.
  • Perform patent counseling and portfolio analysis to support client strategies.
  • Provide patent opinions on various issues related to patentability, infringement, and freedom to operate.
  • Support post-grant proceedings, including reexaminations and inter partes reviews.
  • Assist with litigation support in patent disputes and Hatch-Waxman cases.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and professionals to provide integrated legal services for clients in the life sciences sector.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution, specifically within the life sciences field.
  • Strong understanding of patent law and the patent prosecution process, especially in pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio.
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, biology, or a comparable field.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience with patent counseling, portfolio analysis, and patent opinion work.
  • Knowledge of post-grant proceedings and litigation support in patent-related matters.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration (Required).

Skills:

  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of patent law and the patent prosecution process.
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters in the life sciences industry.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with attorneys and clients.
