Job Overview

A leading law firm is seeking a highly motivated PhD-level scientist with an interest in pursuing a career in patent law. This role will be part of an expert team within the Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) group, focusing on biotechnology and life science technologies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the team and receive training in patent prosecution while engaging in exciting and impactful work.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute domestic and foreign patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences fields.
  • Conduct technical research to support client technologies and their IP needs.
  • Provide technical support for the IP&T practice.
  • Collaborate with a team of professionals across multiple disciplines, including litigation, licensing, and corporate law, to advise clients comprehensively.

Requirements

  • PhD in a life sciences discipline (biotechnology, biology, chemistry, etc.) required.
  • Law firm or PTO experience is a plus but not required.
  • Proven attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively convey complex technical ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Education

  • PhD in a life sciences discipline from an accredited institution.

Certifications

  • No specific certifications required. Law firm or PTO experience is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and research skills.
