A law firm in Washington, DC, is seeking an Affordable Housing Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience in complex affordable housing or real estate matters involving U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs. The ideal candidate will have a focus on HUD regulatory and transactional issues, with a strong interest in real estate finance, housing, and community development. Knowledge of federal, state, and local real property regulations, including HUD’s Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program, is preferred. The candidate should possess stellar academic credentials, superb communication and writing skills, and be comfortable with various technology and project management approaches.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on HUD regulatory and transactional issues related to affordable housing and community development.
  • Manage complex real estate transactions and projects involving HUD programs, including the RAD program.
  • Provide legal counsel on real estate finance, affordable housing, and community development matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to HUD programs and affordable housing transactions.
  • Conduct research and stay updated on federal, state, and local real property regulations and affordable housing laws.
  • Collaborate with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals and compliance.
  • Utilize technology and project management tools to manage cases and streamline workflows.
  • Provide practical and strategic legal advice to clients in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience working on complex affordable housing or real estate matters involving HUD programs.
  • Focus on HUD regulatory and transactional issues, with strong interest in real estate finance and community development.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local real property regulations, including HUD’s RAD program, preferred.
  • Stellar academic credentials and a commitment to excellence.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Experience and comfort with various technology and project management approaches.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction (District of Columbia Bar required).

Skills:

  • Expertise in HUD regulatory and transactional issues.
  • Proficiency in handling complex affordable housing and real estate transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local real property regulations.
  • Familiarity with HUD’s RAD program and other affordable housing initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
